# Create a new user

When you open Keycloak, you'll see the users screen of the Keycloak application, and a list of your existing users.

Click the Add user button to add a new user to your CIIM.

You'll see the Create user screen

• In the Username field, give your user a simple username
• In the Email field, enter and check your user’s email address

You can also add a user's First name and Last name.

At the top of the screen, there are dropdown options for Required user actions.

Choose Update Password and Verify Email to ensure that your user receives a prompt to verify their account and reset their password.

Then click Create to create a record for your user.

You'll see a notification that the user has been created and then you'll see the User details screen.

Click on the Credentials tab to begin creating a password.

The screen will prompt you to create a password for your new user.

Add a temporary password and click on Set password to create a password.

Creating a temporary password will prompt the user to create their own password the first time that they log in.

• Click the switch to make the password temporary
• Click Save to create the user’s temporary password
• Confirm Save to confirm that you want to set the password

On the Credentials tab of the User details screen you’ll see that your user now has a password.

Click Users in the left hand navigation to return to the list of users and see your new user, who has not been verified yet.
