# Executing an extraction

When you **execute an extraction** the process happens immediately.

When you execute one or more extractions, a new section will appear at the top of the processing history, labelled **Processing actions outstanding**.

You will see the same details of the extraction as you see in the expanded processing record, as they are happening:

- The **time and date** that the process began.
- The **name** of the dataset
- The **processing ID**

And four boxes corresponding to the four stages of the process as in the expanded processing record:
- Extraction
- Processing 
- Internal Indexing 
- Publication  

While the data extraction is in progress, each of the boxes will show as either **loading** (in process) or **idle** (waiting).
